The
2nd World Taijiquan and Health Conference
The
United Nations proclaimed 2006 as the International
Year of Sport and Physical Education. The goal is to
“encourage the use of sports to promote education,
health, development and peace”. To respond
to this launch, push forward wushu’s healthy and
scientific development worldwide, and provide an
opportunity for world Taijiquan enthusiasts and
researchers to exchange skills, the “Chinese
Dragon” 2nd World Taijiquan Health Conference,
sponsored by the Chinese Wushu Association and the
Municipal People’s Government of Haikou will be
held from December 18 to 20, 2006 in Haikou, the
beautiful nice-weathered capital city of Hainan
Province, China. I. Aims of the Conference: Unity,
Friendship, Peace and Health II. The events of the
conference will include grand and unique opening and
closing ceremonies, Taijiquan competitions, lectures
on Taijiquan fitness, demonstrations and tutoring by
famous Taijiquan masters, wushu equipment exhibition
and tour to Hainan Island, etc. The Chinese Wushu
Association and the Municipal People’s Government
of Haikou are expecting your participation

Haikou
City
Haikou
is the capital city of Hainan Province, China's
biggest Special Economic Zone. Located on the
northern part of Hainan Island, Haikou is the
political, economic, culture, information, commerce
and trade center of the Hainan province. Its land
area is 2304.8 km² and its population is 1.7
million.
Haikou is at the north rim of the tropics and is
ruled by tropical island monsoon climate with an
annual average temperature of 23.8°C and an annual
average rainfall of 1595.7mm. The yearly sunshine
time averages 1881 hours. With white beaches, blue
seawater, meandering coast, Haikou is filled with
charming tropical glamour. Haikou has many places of
historical interests such as intact volcanic relics
and hot springs. It is a tourist attraction with
magic beauty and it is also a green and modern city.
Haikou has been ranked the fifth among the world
large and medium size cities in terms of its air
quality. It has been selected by the World Health
Organization and China Public Health Ministry as
China's first trail city for "World Health
Cities" program. Haikou has also entitled as
"China's Best Tour City", "China's
Best Residential Environment Award",
"National Sanitary City", "National
Landscape Garden City". Haikou has excellent
ecological environment and enjoys the titles of
"Health City" and "Ecological
City". Therefore, the city is regarded as an
outstanding city with excellent residential
environment and is good for outdoor activities.
Citizens of Haikou lead a joyful and affluent life.
The wonderful Taijiquan blends Chinese Yin and Yang
conception, strength and flexibility, fitness and
fighting skills. With its several hundreds of years
of evolution, development, and inheritance of
Taijiquan masters for generations, Taijiquan has
already been an important part of excellent Chinese
traditional culture and is deeply loved by
enthusiasts of Chinese culture and wushu. The
organization of the "Chinese Dragon" 2nd
World Taijiquan Health Conference in Haikou will
provide a platform for wushu enthusiasts to exchange
wushu skills and it will surely be a journey of
health for all the participants.

5. Competition Events
5.1 Taijiquan Competition Routines (Chen Style, Yang
Style, Wu Style, Sun Style, Wu2 Style, 42 Forms and
Simplified 24 Forms), Taijijian Competition Routines
(42 Forms Sword);
5.2 Traditional Routines
5.2.1 Chen Style, Yang Style, Wu Style, Sun Style, Wu2
Style and other
traditional Taijiquan routines and Taiji Apparatus
routines, but competition routines and Simplified 24
Forms Taijiquan are excepted.
Same kind of barehanded and apparatus routines will be
in one group. If there are less than 5 people in one
barehanded or apparatus routine, the participants will
be grouped into other kind of barehanded and apparatus
routine.
5.3 Group Events
Each group shall be composed of 6 – 10 persons for
both male and female. Music may be accompanied to the
routines (Tapes shall be brought by the participants.)
6. Participating Methods
6.1 Each team shall be composed of 1 team leader, 1
coach, 1 doctor and there is no limitation to the
number of athletes.
6.2 Each participant may enter at most 2 events and
each team may enter 1 group event.
6.3 Classification of ages
Group A: Under 16 years (including 16 years)
Group B: Between 17 - 35 years
Group C: Between 36 - 55 years
Group D: Above 56 years
7. Competition Method
7.1 The competition includes individual events and
group events.
7.2 The competition routines and traditional routines
will adopt the “International Wushu Competition
Rules” endorsed by the IWUF in 1999. The group
events will adopt the “Wushu Competition Rules”
examined and approved by the China State Sports
Commission in 1991.
7.3 Time limit
7.3.1 Competition Routines: 5 – 6 minutes for Chen
Style, Yang Style, Wu Style, Sun Style, Wu2 Style, 42
Forms Taijiquan; 4 – 5 minutes for 24 Forms
Taijiquan; 3 – 4 minutes for 42 Forms Taijijian
7.3.2 Traditional Routines: 4 - 5 minutes for all
kinds of Taijiquan; 3 - 4 minutes for Taijijian; 1.30
– 4 minutes for other apparatus
7.3.3 Group Events: 3 – 5 minutes
8. Placing and Awards
8.1 The first prize (1/5 of the total participants),
second prize and third prize (2/5 of the total
participants) of competition and traditional routines
will be awarded separately according to the age groups
of male and female.
8.2 The first prize (1/5 of the total teams), second
prize and third prize (2/5 of the total teams) of
group events (Taijiquan, Taiji apparatus and Taijiquan
with Apparatus) will be awarded separately according
to the events.
9. Entry And Registration
9.1 Preliminary Entry: The duly completed Preliminary
Entry Form (2 copies in A4 format) must reach the
Foreign Affairs Division of the Chinese Wushu
Association and the Organizing Committee by mail or
fax no later than 24:00 hrs (Beijing Standard Time)
August 31, 2006.
9.2 Final Entry: The Final Entry Form (2 copies in A4
format) and 2 copies of
passports must reach the Foreign Affairs Division of
the Chinese Wushu Association and the Organizing
Committee by mail or fax no later than 24:00 hrs
(Beijing Standard Time) October 15, 2006.
9.3 The participating teams are required to register
on December 16, 2006 at the Haikou Indoor Stadium. Its
address is: No. 36, Binhai Boulevard, Haikou, Hainan

0898-68550407. The transportation between the airport
and the hotel will be arranged.
10. Financial Conditions
Each team member is charged US$ 45 per day (double
room in three star hotel);
US$ 60 (single room in three star hotel); US$ 55
(double room in four star hotel); US$ 70 (single room
in four star hotel); US$ 70 (double room in five star
hotel); US$ 85 (single room in five star hotel). The
expenses include board and lodging in Haikou.
11. Other Matters
11.1 The participants shall go through “Life
Insurance” formalities on their own.
11.2 To ensure the layout of the competition is in
good order, under special circumstances, participants
may apply to the Competition Department in writing for
changes of events before 16:00 of August 17 but there
will be a charge of US$30 per event or participant.
12. The matters uncovered in this regulation will be
notified in due course.
